Brief description:

Fire Ops SA is a leading provider of emergency response services, committed to ensuring public safety and effective disaster management. We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled Emergency Service Watch Room Operator to join our dedicated team.

As an Emergency Services Watchroom Operator, you will be responsible for receiving and managing emergency service communications, co-ordinating responses, and ensuring that appropriate resources are dispatched efficiently. You will play a critical role in the management of emergency situations, working closely with fire, medical, and other emergency services to support public safety.

Personal Attributes:

  • Previous Experience
    Previous experience in an emergency services or operations centre is highly desirable, but not required. Training will be provided.
  • Communication Skills
    Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to remain calm, clear, and authoritative in high-pressure situations.
  • Multitasking Ability
    Capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining focus and accuracy.
  • Problem Solving
    Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to assess situations quickly and prioritize effectively.
  • Technical Proficiency
    Familiarity with radio systems, computer skills, and emergency management tools.
  • Calm Under Pressure
    Ability to stay composed and work effectively in stressful and potentially life-threatening situations.
  • Team Player
    Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of professionals and emergency responders.
  • Flexible Schedule
    Willingness to work in a 24/7 shift environment, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements:

  • Matric certificate required
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft programmes incl MS Excl and MS Word required
  • Own transport preferable
  • Willing to work shifts
  • Good with communication skills
  • Well spoken
  • Works well under pressure
  • Punctual
  • Sense of maturity and able to take initiative
